Bus Stops intrigue me, because of the stories of the ridership. Whenever I see a bus stop my mind wanders to the people standing around waiting on public transportation to take them to their destination. What is their story? What is their destination? Why are they using public transportation?
I was raised in a rural county where growing up there was no public transportation until the end of 2002. If I needed to travel somewhere, I relied on a bicycle, or a car when I became of age to drive. Public transportation was foreign to me.
I photographer this bus stop on Nebraska Avenue just South of the intersection of Hillsborough Avenue while waiting for the traffic light to turn green. As I’m sitting there at the traffic light I found myself as usual, staring at this scene out of my driver’s side window, wondering about the stories of these two gentlemen. Then I realized I had my camera in the truck and decided to photograph it. This photograph gave me an idea. A photo series on bus stops. And just like that a photo project was born. One of my 2020 projects will be a photo series on bus stops. Then maybe portraits and interviews of the people who use public transportation? Let’s see how this evolves.
Am I the only one who is intrigued by the stories of people and public transportation? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments.
